2023-2024 College Scholarships
Rugby Delaware offers rugby scholarships on an annual basis to graduating high school seniors who are looking to continue their education and rugby in college or university. Currently, Rugby Delaware offers two different college scholarships for academically strong and talented rugby players
Rugby Delaware College Scholarship
Rugby Delaware awards annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors who will be joining the rugby program at their college or university of choice. A total of $5,000 in scholarship funds is available per year to scholarship winners.
Scholarship Criteria
Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Applicant must currently play for a Delaware high school or local rugby team
Applicants must be accepted at an accredited four-year college or university with a recognized rugby program
Scholarship winner(s) must join and play for the rugby program at the accredited four-year college or university
The applicant’s character, references or recommendations, community work, rugby potential and personal statement will also be considered in the selection process.
Hugh Kenney Rugby Scholarship
Since 2007, Rugby Delaware has awarded an annual scholarship to incoming University of Delaware Freshmen playing rugby. In 2012, this scholarship was renamed to honor Hugh Kenney a former coach of the men’s and women’s University of Delaware rugby program between 1992-2003. Sadly, Hugh Kenney passed away in January 2012. The Hugh Kenney Rugby Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors who are looking to continue their education and rugby at the University of Delaware (UD). Each year, the Hugh Kenney Rugby Scholarship Selection Committee will award up to two scholarships to graduating high school students who will be attending UD and playing rugby. A total of $4,000 in scholarship funds is available per year to scholarship winners.

Committee evaluates applications based on the applicant’s academic achievement, rugby potential, leadership qualities, references, recommendations and a personal statement.
